MESA is a simple club that happens every other Tuesday at 7:20 a.m. in either the choir room or the theater. On the outside, the club is described as a Spotify-making playlist club with different themes every two weeks, but the people in the club have a much simpler definition.
Senior class president Tyson Johnson described it as “a pretty chill club where we all just listen to different types of music. … It’s just a lot of fun because people have many different music tastes, so you can see and listen to a lot of music that you’ve never listened to before or heard of.”
That “chill” attitude also applies to attendance. There is no requirement to be there, according to Keain Irwin, one of the club leaders.
“You don’t even have to, like, submit a song,” Irwin said. “You don’t have to talk at all. Just like, come in, sit down, get some donuts and just, like, listen. The big thing is, you’re just talking with your friends about music.”
Irwin said, despite that lax attendance policy, the club is growing.
“I remember last year it was, like, there was not many of us,” Irwin said, “but this year, every single one there’s been the most we had last year.”
Many people are passionate about this club; others have a relaxed feel to it, viewing it just as a way to listen to good music with tasty food, which in turn means this club really can be for anyone with a good ear.
The club’s last meeting for this semester will be Dec. 17, with the theme “Winter.”
