Right now, the Titan Library is having an event where you can check out as little as three and as many as five to keep for the whole summer. Included in this deal is a free tote bag, which you can earn by checking out at least three books for the summer. The program runs until the end of the school year or until supplies run out.
What are the requirements for checking out summer books?
In order to check out books for the summer, they need to be independent reading books for your own personal use, no checking out books that you’ll need for class, and you’ll need to bring them back in August when we return back to school.
How did this program begin?
The program where you can check out books for the summer was originally started by school media specialist Dr. Cynthia Stogdill back in 2021, and added in the tote bags three years ago. The reason she started the program was because back in 2021 she did a personal study and found that 40% of students who were attending Papio South didn’t have access to a free public library. “We had summer hours where kids could come in and swap their books, so that kids could have a library throughout the summer,” sStogdill said. There are currently two official dates that students can come into the school to exchange their books, Monday June 15 and Monday June 29, both running from 9 to 11 a.m.
