Tyson Johnson and Abram Butler take center stage in the Play Pro tap ensemble, “Fixer Upper”

A cabaret is a compilation of different scenes from different plays. That carries a fun theme throughout and shows the talent of the people in Play Pro and the talents of the teacher Ms. Mary Dickson.

The students chose the scenes for the Cabaret from a collection of dramas, comedies, and musicals, including “It’s Hard to Speak My Heart,” sung by senior Reece McAdams, “I Guess I’m in Love,” featuring a beautiful piano solo and singing by senior Ally Anson, “Safer,” by teacher Dickson, a “Frozen” medley by junior Joey Westerdale and senior Abram Butler, “Someone Like You,” by junior Caeli Karasek, “Pretty Women” by McAdams and junior Creighton Thonrton, and “Last Midnight,” by junior Ava Jane Albracht.

The show also included a “Frozen” themed tap number featuring surprise guest sophomore Tyson Johnson as Olaf the snowman and the whole Play Pro ensemble, which the audience loved, just as much as Dickson said she “loved to force them to use tap.“

The Cabaret also featured a dramatic scene from “Rabbit Hole” with Jude Glaser and Mattie Sohm, who chose it because of their involvement with each other in emotional scenes. Glaser said they “wanted to challenge ourselves with a sad piece,” which worked to bring some audience members almost to tears.

There was also the comedy sketch “Mafia” from Ash Tointon, Mason Parker, Lizzie Simmons, Glaser, Anson, Albracht, and Lexis Hewitt, which included a smashed-table stunt created by Tointon which even the teacher didn’t know about.

The Cabaret also included a scene from “American Psycho” by Butler and senior Jake Erickson.

The Cabaret involved a lot of dedication and hard work. It turned out great considering the tightness of the schedule due to the multiple drama projects. It sure showed the great competence and hard work of the staff.

The cast and crew were anxious to see how the audience would react to the show, which brought great applause. It was an unforgettable experience for the performers and the audience. Hopefully we will see the Cabaret in future years as well.
