After the freshmen cage ball tournament on November 22 in the south gym, announced by Mr. Drinnin from team Styx, spectators and players alike do not have a definitive answer: who won the competition? At first, team Cronus was in the lead, and it seemed like the game was over. But upon realizing that there was more time to spend, Mr. Drinnin decided to continue playing, and announced that the placement was Styx, Prometheus, Cronus, and finally Atlas. So, we are left to decide, who claims victory over cage ball?
Looking at the competition from the perspective of team Cronus, many of the students feel that the competition was unfair because of the overtime. We interviewed Luke Dolphens, a Cronus student who played during the game one of the 2 winning teams. “I felt like it was rigged, and like it wasn’t right when they switched the winners,” he said.
There was also opinion from other teams, such as Prometheus. Tony Logan, a 9th grader who competed in the game, said “I was intensely angry,” after learning that the winners had been switched.
Despite the opinions of other teams, Atlas competitor Olivia Hermsen did not agree with these other viewpoints. “Although I am a little biased, I do think it was fair, because before we went into overtime we still had a ton of time to play a few more rounds,” she said.
Overall, there is still no clear winner of the cageball tournament. However, the tournament was still a great time for students such as Prometheus player Zoe Shannon, who captured the spirit of students in a single quote – “It was nice watching them all fight to the death.”
