Dog Man

The main protagonist, and also the one the books/movie is named after. Originally, he was two people, a man named Officer Knight and a dog named Greg. Both of them were injured in a bomb explosion, and were rushed to the hospital heavily injured. The doctors ended up fusing their bodies together, putting the dog's head on the man's body, and inevitably creating the "super-cop" everyone knows as Dog Man.

Petey

An orange tabby cat, Petey is the main and most recurring antagonist. He has a penchant for evil, and is a brilliant inventor who usually creates giant machines (robots, the like) to commit crimes, and to take down his arch-nemesis Dog Man. He's incredibly pessimistic, and insistent that everything in the world is horrible. He gets arrested constantly but always manages to escape jail, much to the dismay of the city. He later becomes an ally, undergoing a change of heart thanks to his son/clone Lil Petey.

Lil' Petey

Petey purchased a cloning machine in order to create a second version of himself, but failed to read the manual, which said that the clone would need "18 years to mature". This is how Lil Petey was born, as a clone of the original Petey. He's a small orange kitten and is a very major character, significant to both Petey and Dog Man. Unlike his father, he is not particularly evil, instead being kindhearted and somewhat naive.

Chief

Clarence Bailey, often referred to just as "Chief", is the chief of police and Dog Man's boss. He's one of the tritagonists, and is usually depicted as bossy, and easily frustrated when things don't go his way. He's a close ally of Dog Man.
