Dig into DECA volleyball highlights

Digs for DECA was a fundraiser volleyball tournament organized by seniors Brett Siemsen and Trenton Andringa for the Papio South DECA Chapter. The tournament included 7 teams in a bracket format. Each match was best of three, playing to 15 points.

11:46 a.m.

The Staff filled South Stars take down Can You Dig It handily with two easy wins in their first match, led by teachers Miranda Heitmann and Sam Palensky.

12:00 p.m.

In the middle of the third set, controversy arises as two new additions show up for the Big Mamas. The energy immediately increased in this set, as The Dawgs are flying all over the place. However, the late addition Taylor Mauch would eventually win it for the Big Mamas with a light touch over the net. The Big Mamas won in three sets.

2:05 p.m.

Senior Max Matras has is opponents screaming in fear as he flies out of the gym every time he jumps. Paxton Pedersen gets four aces for Shark Bait which leads them to an eventual 2-0 win over Can You Dig It.

2:35 p.m.

An athletic kill by Cam Ralston ties it in the third set, and an error by the south stars and a block by Shealie Wiebers make it a 2-1 win for Da Titans. This match has championship-level energy.

3:01 p.m.

Shark Bait and South Stars are battling in a quarterfinal match-up. Matras and Palensky are trading points, and neither can be stopped. Grayson Truax provided many energetic hustle plays for Shark Bait, but his energy was not enough to put his team across the finish line. South Stars went on to win in relatively easy fashion.

3:59 p.m.

After a long match, It’s game point for Da Titans. Brice Wallar serves it into the net making it 14-8. The following play, Heitmann serves it into her own side of the net, giving Da Titans the win for the Digs for DECA championship!

4:11 p.m.

Da Titans claim their medals from tournament directors Trenton Andringa and Brett Siemsen. Kenzeie Dyrstad, along with her younger sister, rolled through the tournament with Shealie Wiebers, Cam Ralston, Brice Wallar and Henry Stamps to accompany them. They then went on to take a picture with the tournament bracket, signifying their championship victory.
