What’s New?

During this school year there have been many changes, such as the no-phone policy, no free lunch, new bathroom passes, and the many new additions to the faculty. All of these changes can be hard to keep track of, so here they are, all in one place.

No-phone Policy

“There’s like a ton of research out there that shows how distracting phones are … for students in the classroom …it is highly correlated with anxiety and depression, and just in general is a constant distraction to the learning environment, hence the new policy,” said Mr. Dan Innes, school psychologist.

“ [The policy is] trying to help students kind of compartmentalize: When I’m learning, my phone needs to be kind of out of sight, out of mind – so that all of my attention can be on what I’m learning”  said Mr. Dan Innes (school psychologist).

No Free Lunch

HOT BAR LUNCH = $2.70

Hot Bar entree + 2 Black Cup Items (fruit or veg) + Milk (or Juice, but that counts as both a fruit and the beverage)

GRILL LUNCH = $3.40

Entrée (Pizza Hut pizza OR spicy chicken sandwich OR Snackatizers OR cheeseburger OR boneless wings OR hamburger) + 2 Black Cup Items (fruit or veg) + Milk (or Juice, but that counts as both a fruit and the beverage)

Pass Time

“Everybody’s been really good about having them [bathroom passes], even if they do have some complaint,” Mr. Jim Larson, school security guard.

“I felt like a lot of times that response [I’m going to the bathroom] was their [students] way of avoiding any kind of accountability for just being out in the halls and not going anywhere in particular, just wandering the halls,” Mr. Jim Larson, school security guard.

“So the bathroom passes provide that accountability that seems to be needed,” Mr. Jim Larson, school security guard.

New Faculty

Over the summer 20 new faculty members joined PLSHS.

The pie chart shows the new staff members via the department they joined. The other chart showcases how many of the new staff members or the said.
