Girls Wrestling started its season on Nov. 19, and the team made its entrance at York on Dec. 6, for the first competition. Freshmen Brooklyn Geaney and Khloe Plechas said they were excited to be a part of this year’s team
The coaches are led by head coach Chris Petersen, who has been working hard to prepare the team.
“Coach Petersen is great, and he’s in charge,” Geaney said.
For female athletes like Geaney, wrestling is an empowering experience. “It shows that women can be just as strong as men,” she said. The girls practice early every morning, beginning at 5 and 6, with extra sessions after school. They have 29 wrestlers and two managers.
Wrestling teaches discipline and teamwork, and Geaney said it makes her a better person.
“It pushes me to do my best,” she said.
Plechas encouraged others to join, calling it “the best sport.”
