Anyone entering the Southside entrance of Papio South would have noticed the large construction project taking place.
The Garden of the Gods project is an ongoing, student-involved production that’s made possible with the help of Watkins Blocks and Builders for the future.
All of the materials used in the building process were donated and completely free for the school.
Construction teacher Roger Campbell said, “We were told by the sales staff that if they were to be hired to put that project in the front, it would have [approximately] cost the school over $60,000.”
The building portion of the project spanned over 5 days, with students spending their class time working on it outside.
Up next comes the gardening around the structure to complete the look.
For students, the opportunity posed a learning experience, as most kids that take those classes are very passionately interested in careers in the trades.
Senior Myah Cole said, “It was pretty cool getting to work with the construction workers because that’s something I’m interested in doing.”
Next time you walk inside the building, take a look at the Garden of the Gods.
