Before the start of the season, show choir has a bonding day where they do various activities and get to know each other on a deeper level. Two seniors gave insight on their bonding experiences and their journey in show choir.
Caitlyn Grove, who is in Radiance, explained how her favorite bonding activity was the knee to knee conversation. “It really helps you get to know the person across from you on a deeper basis than just their name”, Grove said,” You get to learn about them as a person, which is always neat”.
Radiance had their bonding day on a weekend where we had excessive heat. Grove said if she could change one thing about her bonding experience it would be the weather. “It was horrendous. It either needed more wind or to be like 76 degrees out”.
Grove wants people to know that radiance are performers who are unique and talented.
“Radiance is more than meets the eye. There are so many unique and talented people. It’s what makes the group authentic and who we are, no group is the same as the last, ” Grove said, “the bonds you create are something truly special, each different from most but in the end we all have each other’s backs. We’re not just performers but we’re also sisters.”
Sha’uri Sanchez, who is in titanium, shared her journey going from titan express, to radiance, to now being in Ti. “ With titan express we had an amazing show that year’, ” she said, “ and it helped prepare me as I do show choir in my high school career and it opened up my confidence as well”. When Sanchez got into radiance, she was super happy and excited as she got to do it with her sister. “ Radiance was also a really good year and I got to do it with my sister”, Sanchez said, “ I love how we were all girls and we were just doing it together, the whole sisterhood, it’s definitely a group I will never forget”.
She expressed how proud she is of herself for never giving up and how much she’s improved since her sophomore year. “ I’ve perfected a lot of my singing and improved a lot in my dancing’ Sanchez said, “ When I made it into Ti, I was very happy and was proud of myself for how far I’ve come”.
Sanchez explained what she wants people to understand about show choir as a whole. She said,“I wish people understood that show choir is just like any other sport that brings us into unity, I really wish people would come see our shows more just like how they go to basketball games and football games. I wish they would come and support us. I think people would be amazed by the singing and dancing and how much work we put in”.
